This game is a joke. Computer wins first roll 9/10 times. When hit within first few moves your “bar” roll will be double sixes 9/10 times. The computer will also roll the combo needed to hit any open piece 9/10 times. I’m guessing the creator(s) are spiteful backgammon players that were never any good on their own in the real world. Don’t waste your time. There are better sites out there. Be Warned !

The dice bot cheats. Pure and simple.
Its way to easy to predict the next roll.
Detracts for the game.
Sadly, the developers have not incorporated random events into the dice rolls.
This game is a huge fail.

Agree with all the comments. I can now predict what the bot will roll. Without fail, I can be ready to clear the board and I will leave one man open and then the bot will roll that number, sending me back and then rolling doubles to make it impossible. Can’t be THAT LUCKY!

If all you want is to play a game that produces doubles every other roll or sometimes every roll this game is for you. Totally No Fun and no strategy will work. Nothing random about it player or computer. It may have good graphics but to play really does suck.

They programmed this game to be as even as possible to each player. That’s why the perfect role always comes out double after double always comes out it will not let someone get an advantage player or computer. It really does stink I rather get my butt kicked by an experience player and learn then play this stupid frustrating way they want you to play. It really really is frustrating. I am a pretty good backgammon player but I can’t show my skill when I play this game on this site it’s too bad because the graphics are good.

The graphics for backgammon 247 are excellent. But that is the best I can say about this site. Taking the risk of seeming boastful, I have played the game for over 70 years, and could easily be considered an expert player. Playing the expert level of 247 only means that the computer is expert at manipulating the dice. 247 is making a mockery of the game, which is stupid. Very self destructive.

To continue my rant, this site is a joke. I can only conclude that the only goal of this developer is to sell advertising. Maybe they are just poor players, or not players at all. It is sad really. Beginning players should stay clear because this site will encourage you to play incorrectly. Good players will ultimately just stay clear, as I am doing. Also in order to leave a comment one has to leave name and email, which will allow the site to target the commenter for punishment. Again, this site is a sick joke.

Do not waste your time on this complete garbage site. Programmers are morons. Dice are loaded. Opponent rolls doubles at a 4-1 ratio, not to mention the countless doubles off the bar! For example: I have had all but one space filled while my opponent is stuck on the bar. And guess what happens all the time? They roll DOUBLES on the only open space! This happens way too often and is completely unrealistic. Dice are loaded and the programmers are total morons. STAY AWAY! Had to rate this one star only because I had to put something down. I would give it one star at all. Garbage site.

I tried the game again after giving it a break for a few months. Same old same old. You can beat the game consistently. But every so often, maybe after six, seven, eight, 10 games, whatever, it seems to switch to an "impossible to beat" mode. Then it just becomes a pain in the neck to play. It's as if the AI knows exactly what your roll is going to be, then gets the perfect roll to crush you. And when the AI is in this "can't lose" mode, you can actually call the shots it's going to make: put simply, it gets the exact roll that will hurt you the most, time after time. A backgammon game shouldn't be a game where, with EVERY roll your opponents gets you exclaim: "What!?" ... "I don't believe it!"..."That's impossible!" But, as said, you will beat this game more often than not. Maybe look on this game as a time-waster for a half-hour now and again?

yup.. all the negative rules are correct,,, bot plays an absolutely stupid game and manages to make it tough by manipulating the rolls,, have tried all the levels and the manipulation factor just goes up ,,,, the game strategy never changes,,, it just gives itself better and better and rolls,,, prime example,,,, played 12 games in a row and only had first roll once,,,, then played 20 more times and only got one more first roll,,, come on,, we are not supposed to see this ?? the real bad part is no matter how much it rigs the roll it still allows you to beat it often because it plays so poorly,,,,

The dice are loaded - whether you are playing and AI or real opponent. Did anyone creating this site ever study Statistics 101? It is possible to make each roll a random roll. Why didn’t they do that? Frustrating beyond words. I’m in search of a better site - or to just play against myself on my board at home. Fairness will be refreshing. Loaded dice aren’t.

Do not play this game, it is not even close to random in the rolls in favor of the AI. I noticed the new AI a few months ago. Since that time the computer wins an improbably number of times with prefect rolls. Just for fun I have played a number of games where I deliberately left exposed points and the computer rolls hit them 9 out of ten times. Then there is a game that the AI never hits your exposed points just to hook in you.

I play first-to-fifteen at expert level on this stupid game only to see how badly I can humiliate the program.

Even though the dice are hopelessly loaded in the computer's favour, you only need leave blots in its home board and it will hit them every time, regardless the stupidity of the move.

I always win and it's an absolute rarity the program scores even a point which makes it as much fun as beating a six-year-old who only learned how to play this morning.

Shame, really, because it used be a good game.

This is by far, the WORST on-line backgammon ever! Just for fun, I went ahead carted the opponents doubles over the course of 100 games. I was out doubled by a margin of almost 3-1! Not to mention the uncounted times my opponent rolled DOUBLES off the bar! Insane! Also, the programming is so bad that when they do come off the bar, they usually roll a 3-4 and are able to cover easily. Stay away from this piece of crap on-line backgammon. By far, THE WORST!

The games board is the best i have found, HOWEVER it is by far the most frustrating cheating, POS AI out there.. It does not take genius to see or feel it, how do players/computer roll the perfect dice at the perfect time, ALL the time... not to mention the amount of doubles compared to another !!!!

After reading the other reviews I can see I am not alone, not to mention the just barley over 1 rating for the game... I should not blame the creators for I keep coming back thinking the game would change- IM the fool... Or more so the company's spending their hard earned $$$ for advertising, do they not read these reviews????

Time to find a new game that is truly a game of skill and chance, not rigged

I have been playing this for as long as they have been on the web and I have watched the program go from relatively fair to impossible recently. A few months ago they introduced a new AI. Apparently, the AI both learns and has control over the roll. It is almost like their programmers were watching behind the mirrored wall laughing at those stupid enough to play. Now, if the AI doubles you might as well just give up, even if you are winning. Aside from if constantly stacking up a series of doubles at the end (4 in a row on my last game) while it gives you a series of 1's and 2's ) it has now learned that by giving you a roll that forces you to uncover 2 checkers they can generate the exact roll to capture both of them - EVERY TIME.

Not worth playing any more.

A pile of crap it is rigged. It ruins what should be a good game. Whatever the makers of the game say it so fixed it is unbelievable. While playing you get so annoyed you feel like throwing your phone away. Playing online you get the feeling that your just playing the robot and not a real person. I've just played a game and had just 3 counters only 3 places from home, I threw 1 and 2, 3 times consecutivly, my opponent had 8 counters 2 of which were 6 or more spaces from home and was throwing 6's and 5's and then on 4th throw got 4444. I just waslked out.

They rigged the dice to keep games close and opponent always gets correct roll to land on players. I've been playing for forty years and if seen roll in real life I would be changing out the dice the way they have it set up currently. Game has become joke. I say we boycott them like others have boycotted Bud Light recently. They have really destroyed this game and obviously they don't care because of all the negative feedback and nothings changed or they don't care what their clients think. Ill also be boycotting all their sponsors in the adds.

Here’s the problem - they know exactly what they’ve done. We keep coming back to play with the assumption that this time will be different. But it never is. What’s amazing to me is how often I roll doubles when I have a pip on the bar - and of course whatever that double roll is always a blocked position. This is the programming move that shows this game is totally rigged at this point - every time I’m on the bar I say “and my next roll will be doubles!” I’ve kept coming back to try and outsmart this thing until I realized that’s literally the trap they want me to fall into…

June 2023 Don't really know what's happening with the 247 Backgammon game..I've played it for years (and usually Win), but recently My Opponent seems to get about 4 lots of Quadruple Rolls, whereas I get NONE, so you can imagine the Result!.....so I shut the Game down at that point.
I now see when playing an Actual 'Person' Online, (and it appears to be the same person from 'his' Moves), the same thing also appears to be happening.
It's not meant to be exasperating, or contrived - it's meant to be FAIR and FUN!

A child must have coded this game's dice cheats. The "computer" rolls are either predictably perfect, or in spite of astronomical odds. The total pip count, and number of "timely' doubles thrown, are lopsided to the point of being asinine. If you play as an Expert, expect the computer to roll doubles 4.2 x the rate of the player. What sort of moron manager would try to build and retain a player base with such an obvious lack of tactics - other than the dice roll.

As can be read in theses reviews I'm FAR from the first player to recognize the BS. The the owners: If you smell it; you're sitting in it. To players; don't waste your time.

Since their update, this game is terrible and they don't seem to care about the reviews and make changes to make it a realistic game. They don't off a zero rating, so I'll submit a 1.

After my last negative review I received an email from the developers saying they were going to make the AI more realistic. A few days ago I decided to give it another try. It continues to be GARBAGE! In no way is this game realistic. The AI always generates exactly the roll it needs while the player gets nothing. I'm done for good. They absolutely ruined a game I had enjoyed for years. My rating is a big 0.

How can a backgammon game have different difficulty levels ?By rigging the dice . There is no other way to make it easier or harder to win . 247 backgammon is strictly for practice. However it is possible to win consistently at expert level by making defensive moves all the time until the bot leaves an opening to attack. Gammon this thing all the time on expert for years . Bot can’t beat a human at this game cos to many variables and not strong game play by bot . It relies on giving itself doubles and the player poor dice . Try again with this in mind . A bit of a boring way to play but teaches you how to play without impulse, the long game to win against humans .

I concur. The AI is a PC (Predictable Cheat). The doubles for the computer / opponent are at a near 5:1 bias, and the predictability of its next role, is where it will be THE most advantageous, at grotesquely unrealistic odds. The only entertainment challenge in this, is knowing it's going to cheat like a French bride, and using that predictability in your strategy.

Since the upgrade was done (not too long ago) the rollings have become biased in favour of the computer -- I play at the "expert" level of the program. For instance I've noticed that whenever both computer and I are done with collecting our dominos, in our respective quarters, and have started taking dominos out --based on what we roll -- the computer is more frequently rolling doubles than I do, or, if I have a domino hit and waiting outside to land into the computer's quarter, it takes for me more rolls to get a favourable one than a computer's domino that is in such a situation. I suspect that the owners of this site have done this to make the the program more challenging hence the players spending more time on it and the owners selling more commercials.

I enjoyed this backgammon site for such a long time, always playing first to 15 at expert level, and while I only ever lost one match it certainly made me work for my wins.

It changed suddenly a few weeks back and it's now the equivalent of playing a 5-year-old who only learned the game this morning.

I used to be happy claiming one backgammon in a year but playing only yesterday against the program's obvious flaws I got five backgammons in five consecutive games for 15-0. Took me 30 minutes and two beers.

Absolutely garbage site. The devs lack the talent to actually program competent bots, so instead they rig the dice. Bots will constantly throw jokers every single game. The only way to win is by playing hyper conservative stiff backgammon, which isn't enjoyable at all. Avoid playing at this site at all costs.

I agree. Also, the margins are really annoying. Why can't they allow a full screen?

This game is now horrible with the changes that have been implemented.
I’ve been playing Backgammon for years and I cannot believe the AI always getting doubles or landing the right number to always get my game piece on the bar. I will not be playing this site any longer.

Well I am certainly disappointed with the update to this game. It used to be fun and challenging and now it’s unplayable. I’ve been playing Backgammon for 50 years and I know my way around this game. I don’t understand what happened but the coding is really, horribly flawed. Backgammon is a game of chance, skill and finesse and this new version doesn't recognize that. Once you lose one man, the game has been decided. Very sad because now I have to give it up unless we can convince you to please reload the old version. And add a concede button. You can fix this, I know it!

I agree with previous reviews. The new version is impossible to beat. Look up the the actual odds of rolling doubles 5 times in a row. I have done the same and called what the next roll will be for the computer and 9 times out of 10 it comes up. I enjoyed the game before, but I'm done.

This is my second review since 247backgammon switched to its new system. I have just completed 43 games. I won 41 out of 43 but some wins -- first player to reach 15 points — came in very tight games (16-13, 16-14, 16-12, a couple of 16-11s in there. In the game I played, tonight, I missed hitting blots (I am talking about direct hits, not a hit that required a combination) too many times to count. But the computer constantly hit any blots that I happened to leave, so frequently in fact that it got to the point I was actually surprised if the computer missed hitting a blot of mine. And, conversely, time after time I would miss the computer's blots. And, again, it got to the point where I was EXPECTING my roll to miss hitting the computer's blot(s). Even when I was coming in off the bar and the computer had left two blots in its home board, my roll would miss both blots. And don't get me started about the number of times the computer bounced in off the bar when I had a five-point board and bounced out with a hit. But 41 wins out of 43 show the system can be beaten consistently. It just seems to me that every so often the computer AI elevates to a level that makes the computer impossible to beat (if only for one game). As I mentioned in an earlier review, tonight I was actually calling the shots the computer would get, such as: "Now it will close off this point" or "It will roll the six it needs -- a million to one it gets the hit." I do enjoy playing the game but I have to believe that while it might not cheat as such it does have the capacity to elevate to a cheating mode if it is losing too many games in a row.

I have enjoyed this game for several years but since it was revised it has been ridiculous. It's nearly impossible to win. I'm done with it.

I have found the opposite, with the new revision the AI plays like a first time player who's only strategy is to put the opponent on the bar and subsequently loses a game that it was winning. Once in about every 4 or 5 games it AI just gets many, many doubles and it isn'a even a game then.

The game has been revised and has gone mad. It is impossible to ever win....the opponent gets endless doubles and repeatedly makes outlandish improbable hits. It is completely unrealistic and I am through with it.

Agreed. ANY combination of dice required by the computer will be forthcoming. I can predict what the computers throw will be. So much for random number generators. I am looking for an alternative.

I used to like the previous expert but this updated expert is nothing more than a cheat. Every two dice that the computer wants it gets, and every two numbers I don't I mostly do get. I sometimes play online and do reasonably well but I'm finding that this update is almost impossible to beat. Whoever programmed this game is very clever but the real board game is not like that. Both players get dice they don't want and play around the problems it causes but this programme doesn't create any problems for itself.
If I could award half a star I would.

Before the revised version of 247backgammon it was possible to beat the game 100 times out of 100 or, at worst, beat it, say, 50-1. I just played the game at the expert level tonight (Feb. 24, 2023). For the love of God! The computer got incredible roll after incredible roll. Such as bouncing in from the bar with just one point open and bouncing out with a hit. Many times!

This is not going to sound believable, but I swear it is true: It got so that I could actually call the computer's rolls. Such as: "Now it will get a double 4; now it will get the 4-3, 6-1 or 5-2 it needs." And on and on. The computer played a super-aggressive game, often hitting and leaving a blot, two blots even, in its home board. And I would come in from the bar and miss the blots time after time after time. After a while I was like: "Watch me miss both of these blots!!"

Look, we can all have a game where NOTHING goes right." It can happen. But when the computer rolls, and time after time I'm saying out loud: "Wow, WHAT a roll!" and I'm rolling, and time after time I'm saying out loud: "Damn! What a crappy roll! that was!", well, something just doesn't seem right.

Worse...I think it sets you up to fail. It gives rolls that leave you wide open to be hit. Then surprise surprise it gets perfect rolls to destroy you. As a previous comment said it forces you to play ultra conservative to have a chance of winning.
This is no help at all in a real game, it changes the way it plays. Dice must be random. Until then I am done.

The recent changes are not an improvement on the old game. Options have disappeared. Sometimes the Computer makes you move a piece that you may not want to. If the 247 Backgammon people read this - change it back to the way it was please. Also add a concede button.
Used to be 5* now its 3* - what a shame.

I am amazed that this has gone to childs play version. No longer can I set my level (expert) but the computer makes childish moves leaving as many pieces open as possible, they are pure canon fodder to me, I have ended up with 12 opponent pieces still on my board, only I seem to double yet still finish with the opponent loosing 12-0.
Off to find a more challenging game unless they restore the original version with what were also better graphics, I think a child has written this code.

First the app does not even correctly follow the rules. Second the app doesn't play well at all except in the expert mode (average player). It depends on choosing just the rolls it needs.

In expert mode, the computer has a strong advantage! Higher rolls, and doubles handed out like candy. Completely biased towards the computer. Not fun to play.

I posted this on another site as well...

So boredom set in, and I, too have noticed that on Expert the game just seemed to get incredible dice. I’m not so convinced it gets “perfect rolls” or gives the human player bad ones, I just started to notice it would simply roll “more” (higher) dice.

So, I started tracking it. Kept track of each game in a 30-game series at the break-contact point and what the loser’s residual PIP was. Some interesting numbers emerged!

I won 20 of 30 games. On average, when the computer won it did so by throwing 11.8 points to my 7.3 points advantage. What’s more interesting, over the 30 games, the computer summed a total advantage of 109 points on wins and 105 points on losses to me 72 and 16 respectively.

The computer also managed 5 flips (came from behind at break contact to win) to my 2. In those cases, the computer averaged 15.6 points to my 12.

I am thoroughly convinced the implementation of 24/7 Backgammon on the expert level just simply (and slightly) increases the roll of the computer. That alone over time would accumulate to a considerable advantage, one easily illustrated by my numbers.

It’s my opinion I won more often by having a better “playing” algorithm/skill. I would do my damndest to not allow break contact until I had a significant lead, because I knew I was unlikely to maintain it.

So glad to see someone else is frustrated by this. Wish I could find a game where the dice actually rolled randomly so the game was based on skill and not what the computer decides to role in order to beat me.

I cab never lose here. When I double, the computer always accepts the cube even if it's the last roll and they're obviously going to lose. It's no fun to play because they never win.

What a pathetic attempt at a great game. Totally biased to computer, as in other reviews when you start to get too far ahead out come the big doubles for computer!! Time and time again when you remove opponents marker and only one space available, yeah that's right throws the only place available!!!
What a waste of time.

The system is programmed to cheat: quicker than an eye-flick it does change the throw results, it also moves the players LOW dice to benefit the house (!house should never move the player), it uses the cub challenge to its’ benefit, and when challenged it folds to easily.
This said does not negate the positive appeal of the site; the house can still be beat despite its shortcomings , play is fast,
and program is easy to use, and you can learn from your mistakes,. It is free. Stop
free.

When your apponent outrolls 2-1 on doubles, your not likely too win. Seconddly never rolled so many 1-2 combo in real life, so not overly imptressed with THEIR random roll mechanics. Want to feel like a dumb!!! play 247 backgammon.
